Strolling through the Jardin del Turia in Valencia, I marveled at trees resembling an imaginary paradise. Later, I discovered that the history of this place begins with destruction: the Turia River overflowed, causing a massive catastrophe. The ruin was transformed into a garden, and the landscape, with human intervention, was conquered.

Today, I ask myself: how should we look at the ruins?
The landscape of my childhood transforms into a site documenting war crimes. Between the first and second photographs, Russia detonated a dam. One human act erased something as enduring as the Dnipro River from the map. The white line on the stone marks the place where the water used to be before the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP and the overflow of the reservoir.
A line that manifests 9 years of destruction.

Similar marks can be found in the historic center of Valencia on buildings that were flooded by the Turia flood. The project was created as part of the "La Tierra" residence in the city of Valencia, Spain, in November 2023.
